A DST file can't be opened by Windows or macOS on their own, and most embroidery software is Windows-only and paid. This viewer opens DST files in any modern browser. Because DST files store no colours, each colour block gets a starting colour you can change to match the design's thread chart. More about the format on what is a DST file.
What the numbers mean
| Size | The width and height of the stitched area, in millimetres and inches. Compare it with your hoop's sewing field, not the outside of the hoop. |
|---|---|
| Stitches | How many times the needle goes into the fabric. A 4×4 inch design is often 5,000 to 15,000 stitches; a filled jacket-back design can pass 100,000. |
| Colours | The number of thread blocks. The same thread used twice counts twice, because the machine stops each time. DST files don't store the actual colours, so the ones shown are a guess you can change. |
| Trims | Where the machine cuts the thread, usually before moving to a different part of the design. |
| Jumps | Moves without stitching. Untrimmed jumps leave a loose thread on top that you snip by hand. Tick Jump stitches under the viewer to see them. |
| Stitch time | Sewing time at the speed you choose. It doesn't include thread changes, which on a single-needle machine depend on you. |
| Hoop fit | Pick your machine brand and hoop. The dashed outline shows the sewing field, green if the design fits. |
| Check | Flags stitches under 0.3 mm (thread breaks), over 7 mm (snags) and very dense spots (puckering, broken needles), each with a plain-English fix. |

Questions
How do I view a DST file online?
Drop it on the viewer at the top of this page, or tap Choose a file. It opens in a second or two, in colour, with its size and stitch count.
Can I view DST files on an iPad?
Yes. Save the file to the Files app, open this page in Safari and tap Choose a file. Pinch to zoom and drag to move around the design.
Why does the viewer show different colours from the seller's picture?
DST files don't contain colours. Click a thread swatch in File info to set each colour to match the design's colour chart.
How accurate is the stitch time?
It's the sewing time at the speed you pick. Add a minute or so per colour change on a single-needle machine, plus hooping and trimming.
